Oceans of Dryness - a poem by Rajiv Lather
Heated by burning selfishness,
water of empathy evaporates
resulting in oceans of dryness.
What happened to the others?
Drowned in a flood of neglect
friends, relatives, neighbors.
Divided by unconcern and fear,
alienated by clashing interests,
mountains of loneliness appear.
Tides of time erode the crown
exposing the frail strata below
forewarning a disruptive storm.
Cataclysmic upheavals obtain,
bleak desert of individualism,
only fossils of society remain.
Compassion extinct spirit dead,
milk of human kindness sapped,
nothing but egoism left instead.
Will we survive, why this despair?
I have me, my self; I don’t care!
